Glen Emmets continued their 100% start to the Division 3 League season with a 9pt victory over Wofe Tones in Drogheda on Saturday evening.
Emmets suffered a blow right from the start of this game when county minor Daniel Grimes was taken off with a knee injury after 5 mins. Emmets drew first blood with the first score of the game on 6 mins when half back Tom Grimes raced up the wing unmarked after The Emmets took a quick free kick an pointed well from a tight angle, Tones responded straight away with a point to level the game on 8 mins,The Emmets then scored 2pts in a row both off the boot of Eamon Mullen (1free) on 12 and 15 mins,The Tones responded with a point which was to be their last score of the half on 17 mins. Then came the decisive moment of the first half when Club Captain David Bracken drove a high ball into the heart of the Tones defence and the ball bounced over the Tones centre-half back and Emmets full-forward Paul McGoarty raced on to the ball and finished superbly to the bottom left corner with the Tones keeper at full stretch on 21 mins. The Emmets completely dominated the final 10 mins with Seany Lynch and Paul McGoarty pointing to leave the half-time score GLEN EMMETS 1-05pts WOLFE TONES 0-02pts.
The Emmets started where they left off with the opening score of the second half from Paul McGoarty on 8 mins, Tones got off the mark straight away with a well taken point from a free, but McGoarty added 3 more points in a row on 10, 13 and 17 mins. Tones then hit two in a row on 20 and 22 mins. The Emmets then hit 5 wides in a row before Gordon Healy fisted a point after a goal line block by a Tones defender on 26 mins and then Eamon Mullen scored a fine free to finish the scoring on the night on 28 mins with a full-time score of GLEN EMMETS 1-11pts WOLFE TONES 0-05pts.
Emmets were best served on the night by Colin Carolan, Tom Grimes, Stephen and Gordon Healy and Paul McGoarty….
