Glen Emmets 5-05 Na Piarsaigh 0-08
Div 2b League Semi-Final
Times Report Viewed:45

Glen Emmets u16 team travelled to Dundalk on Monday evening to play Na Piarsaigh in the division 2B league semi final, despite losing the league encounter by 2-12 to 0-11 emmets arrived with a great sense of optimism after victory over naomh martin in the previous round .
The first half
Emmets started the game brightly and won the first few kick outs, but a misplaced pass saw Na Piarsaigh gather the ball and scored the first score of the game on 5 mins, Sean Kerr got emmets off the mark on 7 mins after emmets had hit 3 wides with a nice point on the turn, emmets then missed two frees before James butler converted a 20 yard free to put emmets in the lead on 10 mins, Na Piarsaigh scored the next two points in a row to regain the lead on 16 an 20 mins, Sean Kerr replied on 21 mins to level the game, in the next 10 min period to half time Na Piarsaigh had a real good spell an its credit to emmets back 6 of Brendan Carry, Dylan McGuire, Declan Campbell, Stephen Noone, Jamie Farnan an Conor Cassidy that they held Na Piarsaigh to only one point before the half time whistle went leaving a score line of Glen Emmets 0-03 Na Piarsaigh 0-04
The second half
Emmets Got a dream start to the second period when from the throw in conor grimes won the ball an some quick movement an a excellent hand passing move from emmets forwards saw conor cusack presented with a sight of goal which he finished well…. conor`s direct running and quick burst of speed was a constant treat all night to the Na Piarsaigh back line, but as always seems to be the case with a very strong Na Piarsaigh team this goal just sparked them into life an they dominated the next 15 mins of the game scoring points on 8, 9, 11, 13 mins with out reply to leave emmets with only 11 mins left to play trailing by 1-03 to 0-08 points, the turning point of the game came on 19 mins when the hard working david Connolly cracked a shot off the crossbar conor Cusack gathered the rebound only to be bundled over in the box PENALTY. The Responsibility after some debate ended up with James Butler Who had missed his last penalty kick Against the martins , but this did not phase him and he coolly slotted the ball to the keepers right to put emmets a point ahead, In truth from this point on emmets gained full control of the game and played the best football of there season , at the back Declan Campbell had his hands full marking Na Piarsaigh`s no11 two great tackles denied them a way back into the game, some great passing got emmets out of trouble on several occasions in the full back line, conor grimes had a great battle with Na Piarsaigh No9 along with his mid-field partner Keith Boylan they worked tirelessly for the 60 mins, for the last 8 mins both emmets mid-fielders managed to win by catch or break every kick out and feed first time ball into the forwards, Sam Breen, david Connolly and James butler worked very hard in the half forward line, an conor cusack, Sean Kerr an James Byrne never stopped running in the full forward line, and emmets pressure played off with goals on 22 an 24 mins by Sean Kerr who converted after winning a long ball into the square turning quickly to finish an James butler who got on the end of a hand passing move to finish strongly to the roof of the Na Piarsaigh net from a tight angle, conor cusack an Sean Kerr pointed one each and on 30 mins the rout was complete when conor cusack finished off the scoring with his second goal of the game to make it Glen Emmets 5-05 Na Piarsaigh 0-08
Well done lads all the training and hard work paying off now Playing very well an can now look forward too the final….

Match report

Glen Emmets rescue act of the 2010 season began from the moment the ball was throw in, and a fit fast moving team totally dominated the first half, Emmets got the first two chances of the game but failed to score them with James butler missing a free an Sean Kerr pulling an effort wide, emmets defence were in great form an repelled three attacks in this time with great work coming from Dylan McGuire, Jamie Farnan and Stephen Noone , conor grimes started the scoring on 5 mins with a brilliant long range effort from the right had side of the pitch from 35 yards, Baile Talun levelled an min later on 6 mins, but a brace of pints from the impressive James Byrne on 7 an 15 mins saw emmets take the lead 0-03 to 0-02 , Baile Talun scored what was to be there last score of the half on 17 mins as Emmets took complete control from here scoring points on 18, 19, 23 and 26 mins from Conor Cusack, Sean Kerr, James Butler an Sean Kerr again.
On 29 mins emmets got the decisive score of the game as Sean Kerr burst on to a breaking ball to smash the ball too the roof of the net, at this stage emmets did not want the half time whistle to come as they added two further points in stoppage time from Sean Kerr an James Butler..

HT Emmets 1-09 Baile Talun 0-02

The second half was too prove difficult for emmets as too be fair a good baile talun team where to stage a remarkable come back, emmets knew all they had to do was stay in touch but got off to the worse possible start as they conceded a goal after 5 mins of the second half, emmets failed to get a score on the board in the next 14 mins as Baile Talun staged there comeback scoring points on 8, 12 and 17 mins in fairness to emmets they battled very hard in this period to limit the talanstown lads to the minimum amount possible, but with a score badly needed up popped James Byrne to score his third point of the game on 19 mins to get emmets back in action, and in the following 5 mins emmets wasted two great goal chances to finish the game when they should of taking the points, Conor Cusack scored emmets last score of the game on 24 mins, an Baile talun finished the scoring with points on 26 an 30 mins, but it was too late and emmets did enough to hold out after a great first half an deservedly Won the Div 2B league Title
